Your AI starts every chat knowing nothing. Not your business, not how you like things done, not the thing it figured out yesterday. Your Notion is your knowledge base. Your AI just needs to be able to read it.
What a Knowledge Base Is
It's one place where everything your AI should know about you lives: your projects, your clients, how you like things done, the decisions you've already made.
Without one, you're the knowledge base. Every new chat starts with you explaining the same things all over again. With one, you say it once, it gets written down, and every chat after that starts already knowing your world.
The chats come and go. The knowledge never leaves.
How It All Comes Together
This is the part I wish someone had shown me at the start. There are three pieces, and they each do a different job:
- The command center - my Notion. Where the actual work lives: tasks, content, clients
- The skills - saved files that tell my AI HOW to do each job
- The knowledge base - everything my AI KNOWS. Mine lives in a free notes app called Obsidian, but yours can start as a single page in Notion
A brand new chat opens, reads the knowledge base, sees its skills, and gets to work in the command center. It works because it's already trained.
The Part Most People Miss
Everyone thinks a knowledge base is something you have to sit there and maintain. It's backwards. Your AI can maintain it. At the end of a session it writes down what it learned: the preference you corrected, the decision you made, the mistake it won't repeat.
I never write mine by hand. One morning an agent of mine made a mistake and the lesson got written down. That night a completely different session dodged the same mistake without being told. That's what "updates itself" means.
One Thing to Try This Week
If your AI still can't see your Notion, fix that this week. It's one connection, no code:
- Open Claude - the desktop app or claude.ai, then go to Settings, then Connectors
- Add the Notion connector - sign in, and that's the MCP doing its job
- Test it - ask Claude something only your Notion knows, like "what's on my content calendar this week?"
Once it answers, your AI can pull knowledge straight from your workspace every time it works for you.
